After several unsuccessful attempts to find the right person through
advertising ourselves in local and regional newspapers we approached
an employment agency that specialises in the recruitment of technical
staff. Mark Jerling was referred to us then joined the company
in June 2002. Mark brings with him a wealth of experience with
residential architecture and other specialized fields: He worked
previously for an Architectural firm in Wellington and prior to
that in his own Architectural Design practice in Cape Town, South
Africa.
Because the scale of work Mark can carry out is so varied and
the fact the all clients have their own unique range of requirements,
we as a company felt it would be an advantage to you (the client)
for us to write about Mark’s past projects and achievements
so that you can appreciate what he can do for you.
Individual Homes:
Architecturally designed homes in any style. Mark has considerable
experience with traditional building styles, most notably Colonial,
Victorian, Georgian & Edwardian styles. Much of his past
work developed toward a more modern interpretation of these styles,
with traditional shapes married with contemporary layout requirements.
In addition, Mark has also done work is such diverse styles as
Cape Dutch and Contemporary or Post-Moderné. Mark can
assist you with all aspects of your new home, from site selection
and site layout to décor and landscaping. Indoor-outdoor
flow, family lifestyle, you name it – if Mark does not
know about it he’ll research for your project.
Apartments and Townhouses:
Mark has worked on multi-unit apartment blocks, and several
townhouse developments. This work has included all aspects from
initial township layout through selection of materials and interior
décor.
Cluster Home Developments and Housing Estates:
Mark has been involved with several developments of this nature.
Work in this field includes Golf Estate homes, Wine Estate homes
and homes in secure neighbourhoods. Mark has also compiled architectural
guidelines for such developments. These types of developments are
becoming very popular with people who are after a specific lifestyle
environment.
Restoration & Renovation:
Mark has gained much experience with restoration techniques
and research. He has worked on the restoration and / or renovation
of residential buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries, also
early 20th century homes.
Hospitality Design:
Mark has gained considerable experience with Hospitality Design
requirements through his work on the design teams for several
5-star and 5-star + establishments. Whether your project is a
45 room boutique hotel, or a 2 suite home-stay – he can
assist you with all aspects from concept to completion.
Wine Production Cellars:
Mark has been on the design team for several wine production
cellars in South Africa’s premier wine growing region,
the Western Cape. Generally, these cellars make provision for
all aspects of winemaking from destalking through barrel and
bottle maturation and even effluent control and disposal. Mark
has a keen interest in winemaking techniques and will be happy
to assist you and your winemaker with your particular requirements.
Detail Design:
Lighting:
Considerable experience with lighting layouts, with technical
knowledge of lighting types and advantages of different types.
Purpose made light fitting design in low voltage dicroic and
fibre-optic. Mark designed all the system and aperture enclosures
for a unique 18-strand fibre-optic external floodlighting system
used to, discretely, light the façade of a heritage
building in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa, possibly
the only fibre-optic external floodlighting system in the Southern
Hemisphere.
Sound:
Mark can assist you should you have special requirements for
sound distribution in your home. You may require a home-theatre
with surround sound, or even Hi-Fi quality sound transmission
throughout your new home. We can make it happen. Whole house
control systems can coordinate your lighting, sound, services
and appliances.
Kitchen Layout:
We work with experienced consultants but can also provide our
own input with your Kitchen Design requirements. We will help
you to create the ‘look’ you’re after, whether
traditional or contemporary.
Wardrobes and Walk-In Cupboards:
Modern homes seldom have enough storage space, primarily because
wasted space in a home is costly and therefore undesirable.
Mark can assist you with the latest design concepts to provide
optimal space utilization and subsequently more use-full storage
space. Your new home can be planned to accommodate all your
storage requirements without compromise to style and comfort.
Bathroom Layout:
Mark’s considerable experience in this field makes him
the ideal person to assist you with your new Bathroom fittings
and fixtures. Have you heard about bathroom vanities with spare
towel storage, dirty laundry hamper and space for all the cosmetics
and or medical supplies? Mark will gladly share his knowledge.
Home Office Requirements:
Working from home? Farm Office? Mark can help you keep the office
in the house but out of the home.
